I order KFC chicken wings more than I probably should. They're the kind of food where you start eating them as an appetiser and then realise you've eaten the whole portion before your main meal has arrived. The problem, aside from the slight shame, is that it's very easy to lose track of how many you've eaten and therefore how many calories you've consumed.
So let me give you the numbers.
KFC Chicken Wings Calories Per Wing
KFC UK Hot Wings are on-the-bone chicken pieces - typically a mix of drumettes and wingettes - coated in KFC's seasoned batter. The calorie count per wing varies depending on the size of each individual piece, but you're generally looking at 90–130 kcal per wing for KFC's standard hot wings.
Estimated totals:
- 3 wings: approximately 270–390 kcal
- 6 wings: approximately 540–780 kcal
- 10 wings: approximately 900–1,300 kcal
- 20 wings: approximately 1,800–2,600 kcal
Why Such a Wide Range?
Wing pieces vary significantly in size. A large drumette can weigh almost twice as much as a small wingette. Since KFC prices wings by count rather than weight, the calorie content of "10 wings" genuinely varies depending on which pieces you get in your portion.
This is why using a "per wing" estimate is always approximate - it's much more accurate to weigh a portion and calculate from there if you need precision. But for most people, knowing that each wing is roughly 90–130 kcal is enough to make sensible decisions.
Wings as a Main Meal vs a Side
Six hot wings is where things get interesting. At around 540–780 kcal, six hot wings is a complete meal in calorie terms - more than the standard Fillet Burger. But most people order them as a side, which is how they end up consuming massive calorie totals without realising.
Six wings plus a burger plus chips can easily exceed 1,500 kcal. That's a very large meal.
My approach now: if I want wings, they're the main event. Six wings plus a Corn Cobette (57 kcal) plus water is around 600–850 kcal - a complete, filling meal.
Protein in KFC Chicken Wings
Chicken wings are high in protein - especially the drumette, which has more meat. Each KFC wing likely contributes 8–12g of protein. Six wings = approximately 50–70g of protein, which is exceptional for a meal.
Calculate Your Wing Order in the KFC Calculator

Wings are great. They're just not a side dish. Once you accept that, eating them becomes a much more deliberate - and more enjoyable - choice.
